I believe that I can have both a fixed mindset and a growth mindset, but it mainly depends on the situation. When I play video games, sometimes I take a fixed mindset and believe I’m not good enough to keep on playing and become better. I am very hard on myself when I feel this way because it discourages me to continue playing with friends, as I also miss the opportunity to spend quality time with them. However, I turned from a fixed mindset to a growth one when I decided that I wanted to see better results and change. I also really wanted to play with friends and become better than them, as a way of motivating myself to keep doing better and surpass them. When I used my growth mindset, I had self-motivation which kept me going. I felt great after I achieved a higher rank because it meant that I have gotten better and it was due to my hard work and effort. I could tell the difference and it was very obvious because without good motivation, I tend to have more a fixed mindset, in any situation as well. The catalyst of becoming good at the game occurred when my friends and I were playing the video game and they were poking fun at my skills (in a joking way), but I wanted to turn things around. Another reason I wanted to become good at the game was because I did not want to be the worst one out of all of us, which further helped me become motivated.
